Annual Events

Mark your calendars for TNT’s unforgettable yearly events! Open to all members—and friends too—these gatherings are the heartbeat of our community.

From fun-filled celebrations to fundraising occasions, each event offers a chance to connect, laugh, and support TNT’s mission. While some events include fees to help offset expenses related to an event, they’re all about fostering togetherness and creating lasting memories. Don’t miss out on these cornerstone gatherings. September / October 

The Welcome Back BBQ launches TNT’s programmatic year. The Planning Committee runs the barbecue, and the TNT Ramblers play music while congregants enjoy homemade salads and sides with kosher burgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs. The event is a great way to make new friends or see friends that you may not have seen since before the summer.

November

The TNT Film Festival explores a yearly theme through the medium of cinema. For one weekend in November starting on Erev Shabbat, members come together to enjoy various films of Jewish interest and discuss them afterward. They include documentaries and full-length films on cultural, historical, and comedic topics. The feature film is on Saturday evening following Havdalah and dinner. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the individuals who underwrite this program, making it possible for our community to thrive.

November / December (pre-Hanukkah)

The Shoresh Preschool Holiday Market is a pre-Hanukkah tradition at Temple Ner Tamid, offering a festive opportunity to shop for unique gifts while supporting the preschool. Organized by parents, this event features a selection of items from local and family-owned businesses, making it a perfect way to celebrate the season and contribute to the growth of the school.

January / February

Each year in January or February, our community celebrates Shabbat Shira, the Sabbath of Singing. Here we experience our passage from narrowness to freedom, by elevating the place of music and the creative arts. Past guest artists have included Ben Sidran, Nefesh Mountain, Billy Jonas, Lisa Gutkin, the Stonewall Chorale, and many more. It is an amazing Shabbat experience not to be missed. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the individuals who underwrite this program, making it possible for our community to thrive.

January

Shabbaton is a full-day celebration of prayer, learning, and community at TNT, organized by Clergy Associate Ronni Pressman. Held on the last  Saturday in January, the event features activities like yoga, tai chi, Shabbat worship, Hebrew learning, engaging speakers, and concludes with Havdalah. Participants are welcome to join for specific sessions or enjoy the entire day. Check the schedule for details!

February

The annual gala is TNT’s largest fundraising event, organized by the Planning Committee. It brings together the “youngsters” and the “oldsters” for an evening of schmoozing, eating, dancing, and just having fun. The ticket cost pays for the event, while the sponsorships and ads in the appreciation journal fulfill the annual operating budget commitment. This event is held at a different local venue every year.

February 

The annual Inclusion Shabbat features guests from the Jewish Services for the Developmentally Disabled (JSDD) who not only spend the evening with us in prayer and community, but teach us about the process of the art they have created and hangs on the TNT walls. Services are followed by an art walk and oneg.

February / March

Mishloach manot is run by the Planning Committee. The tradition of exchanging mishloach manot- gift bags filled with treats – is routed in the Book of Ester to ensure everyone has something for the Purim feast.

A Purim bag is provided to everyone in our community – staff, families, teachers, 800 baskets in all! Spread joy and strengthen your connections by sponsoring, assembling or distributing bags. It’s a meaningful and festive way to make Purim special for all!

February / March

One of TNT’s most beloved traditions is the annual Purim Spiel—a hilarious, musical retelling of the Purim story featuring original scripts, satirical humor, and fun song parodies. With over 40 participants, including adults, kids, and clergy, the Spiel brings the whole community together. Rehearsals start in December for the big Saturday night performance in Feb/March. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just love to sing, dance, and have fun, the “Spielers” welcome everyone to join in the excitement!

February / March

Get ready for a day of Purim fun! Come in costume and enjoy games for all ages, a craft room, a quiet space, and even a giant inflatable obstacle course. The Madrichim run the activities, and there is always plenty of pizza, snacks, and more. Don’t miss it!

March / April

Celebrate Jewish women past and present with a musical experience led by Cantor Greenberg, reimagining rituals and prayers through a feminist lens. Female TNT members are encouraged to register early for this powerful and inspiring event—it’s popular and always fills up quickly! Bring your mom, your daughter, or attend solo for an unforgettable evening.

May

Each May, a quorum of over 72 members gather in person and online for the Annual Congregational Meeting. This important event addresses key topics, including the State of the Temple, the Budget, and the upcoming Slate of Officers and Trustees. And Ice Cream. 

May

Throughout a weekend in May, each year our congregation brings in a scholar of note to become part of TNT’s weekend services. Scholars range from historians to cultural icons to teachers of Torah. Past scholars have included Rabbi Jonathan Crane, Emory professor and foremost Jewish ethicist; and Rabbi Leon Morris, President of Pardes in Jerusalem. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the individuals who underwrite this program, making it possible for our community to thrive.

May

The Shoresh annual fundraiser hosts a lively new theme each year which includes raffles and a silent auction where attendees browse and bid anonymously on unique and desirable items, many donated by local vendors. Organized by parent volunteers, the event features mingling, drinks, and the thrill of competitive bidding, with prizes going to the highest offers when the auction closes. It’s a fun way to support the preschool while connecting with the community.
