Our Holocaust Scroll

Holocaust Scroll #811

TNT is proud to house Holocaust Scroll #811, a handwritten copy of the Five Books of Moses, beginning with Genesis and ending with Deuteronomy, gifted on permanent loan from the Memorial Scrolls Trust in London. The exact origin of this scroll is unknown.

During the Holocaust, Nazis confiscated Torah scrolls from synagogues across Bohemia and Moravia, shipping them to the Jewish Museum in Prague. After WWII, the scrolls remained in Prague, where they deteriorated in a warehouse under communist control. In 1963, British philanthropist Ralph Yablon purchased 1,564 of these scrolls and donated them to Westminster Synagogue in London, which established the Memorial Scrolls Trust. The trust restored many scrolls and began loaning them to synagogues, universities, and institutions worldwide, one being Temple Ner Tamid. Today, these scrolls serve as powerful symbols of Jewish resilience.

Inside the Torah Cover

The cover was created by Clergy Associate Ronni Pressman. Made with doubled fabric and quilted layers, it gently blankets the scroll. Inside, congregants who lost family members in the Holocaust inscribed their names on small slips of paper and submitted photographs. These were combined into a collage, printed on the fabric, and placed within the cover—creating a sacred space where these souls are embraced and forever connected to the scroll.
