Shabbat Services

Shabbat Services

Shabbat is the soul of Temple Ner Tamid. As we sing and hear words of Torah, Shabbat provides an opportunity to draw closer to God and each other. Services take place in either our larger Sanctuary space or our more intimate Chapel space depending on the number of participants. Both spaces offer a calming, reflective, and personal atmosphere for prayer.

The following are our offerings each Shabbat. Please check the calendar for any changes or updates.

Friday Night

Erev Shabbat services begin Fridays at 6:30pm and are especially musical, often featuring a live band made up of Temple Ner Tamid members who accompany the Cantor. The service lasts about an hour and is full of energy and spirit — it’s not unusual to see people swaying to the music or hear the entire congregation clapping along. These intergenerational services bring together everyone from seniors to young families, all finding connection and inspiration in the shared experience.

In the summer months, services are led by members of the congregation with support from our clergy.

Shabbat Morning

Before services begin we have a host of offerings. Join us each week at 8:30am for virtual Torah study. Led by a member of the congregation, this dedicated group delves into the themes and messages of the weekly Torah portion.

Likewise, at 9am, we have a series of spiritual offerings to get us mindfully ready to pray. These include a chanting circle that meets monthly.  On certain Shabbatot we will be bringing in a Yoga instructor for a more embodied practice.

Shabbat morning worship begins at 10am and concludes by noon. This community service is where life-cycles happen (b’nei mitzvah, baby namings, aufruf blessings) and is led by our clergy.

On the third Shabbat of each month, members of the congregation gather for the Casual Minyan, a wonderfully informal and participatory lay-led service with an in-depth discussion of the weekly Torah portion. Following the Casual Minyan, members join together for a lunchtime tisch, or festive study session over a meal where our Rabbinic Intern, James Feder, co-leads a thoughtful learning session alongside a member of our congregation.

Tot Services

“Tot Shabbat” welcomes families with young children on the third Friday of each month at 5:30 PM for a lively service filled with music, stories, and dancing, followed by a potluck dinner. This fun gathering is free and open to the public.

“Wake Up Shabbat” takes place on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 AM, offering a joyful service for children ages 7 and under and their parents and guardians. It’s a beloved gathering for the youngest members of the community, followed by snacks and schmoozing for all to enjoy.
